Tripura elections: BJP releases first list of 48 candidates

New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday released its first list of candidates for the Tripura Assembly elections. The party declared the names of 48 candidates in the first list while the names of the remaining 12 candidates will be announced soon. Tripura has 60 assembly seats.

BJP’s national spokesperson Sambit Patra said at a press conference held at the party headquarters that the party’s Central Election Committee has approved the first list of 48 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Tripura. The party has fielded women candidates in 11 of the 48 seats.
The party has fielded the Chief Minister of the state, Dr. Manik Saha, as its candidate from the Town Bordovali constituency. Besides, Union minister Pratima Bhowmik has been fielded from Dhanpur, while Mohd Moboshar Ali, who joined the party yesterday, is set to contest from Kailashahar. State BJP chief Rajeev Bhattacharya will contest from Banmalipur.

Patra said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a special attachment with Tripura. Here 25 lakh Tripura residents are provided free food grains every month. Pure drinking water has been provided to 53 per cent households since the Modi government came to power at the Centre. The Central and State Governments are continuously working together for the development of the people of Tripura.

It is worth mentioning that today BJP has declared the names of candidates for 48 out of total 60 seats in Tripura. The party will also announce the names of 12 candidates soon. The state, which has a 60-member assembly, will go to polls on February 27. The results will be declared on 2 March.
