72 arrested over vandalism in Bangladesh

Seventy-two individuals have been arrested in connection with looting during nationwide protests in Bangladesh on April 7, which opposed Israel’s military actions in Gaza. Police reported that protesters engaged in looting, vandalism, and attacks during the demonstrations.

Arrests included 33 in Khulna, 19 in Sylhet, among others, totaling to multiple locations. Nine cases are reportedly registered regarding these incidents.

The protests, marked by strong anti-Israel sentiment and support for Palestine, disrupted public life significantly, leading to closed businesses, empty educational institutions, and postponed classes and examinations, with participation from students and various civil society members.
