160 Rohingya refugees fleeing Bangladesh feared drowned in sea near Andaman

Kolkata : 160 Rohingya refugees who fled Bangladesh’s refugee camp are feared drowned in the sea near Andaman. An official of the Rohingya Human Rights Initiative has claimed this.

This official has told that all these refugees had fled from Bangladesh by taking a boat in the Bay of Bengal. One of these refugees sought help by contacting the sea of Andaman and Nicobar Islands near Indonesia through radio frequency. Sabbar Meen, director of the Human Rights Organization, said that one of the refugees had contacted him on Wednesday. After that there is no information about him. He told that most of the absconding people are women and children.

Rohingya refugees flee Kutupalong, the world’s largest refugee camp in Ukhia in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, and another densely populated Balukli refugee camp nearby. Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said- “There are some media reports but I am not aware of any such incident.” The Indian Coast Guard has also denied any such incident for the time being. No such boat has been recovered so far in the Indian maritime boundary.
