52 Arrested After Violent Ganesh Idol Immersion Procession Turns Tense

Mandya: A Ganesh idol immersion procession in a town in Mandya district turned violent when clashes broke out between two groups, leading to a tense situation.

As the mobs went on a rampage, targeting shops and vehicles, 52 people were arrested and prohibitory orders have been imposed till September 14 as a precautionary measure. During the clashes, a few people, including two policemen, sustained minor injuries and the situation was brought under control with the deployment of additional security forces.

According to police, the violence started when an argument broke out between two groups during the procession and escalated when miscreants started hurling stones. The group that carried out the procession staged a protest near the police station demanding immediate arrest of those responsible for the violence.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah condemned the incident and warned of ruthless action against those trying to create religious divide. He urged the public to maintain peace and exercise restraint without succumbing to incitement.
