Jammu: On Tuesday, voting began at all 5,060 polling stations in 40 Assembly constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) as the bright autumn sun greeted voters as they exercised their democratic right.
In the Valley, voters were seen wearing warm clothing while in Jammu division, voters still wore summer attire. Men were spotted forming queues at various polling stations, while those in traditional Dogri dresses came out in a festive mood in Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, and other areas. Enthusiasm was unmatched in areas close to the International Border, where voters exchanged greetings with security forces who were guarding the polling stations. Special arrangements were made for sick and infirm voters to cast their votes. In this final phase of J&K Assembly elections, 39.18 lakh voters will decide the fate of 415 candidates.
The Election Commission has set up 5,030 polling stations, including special stations for Kashmiri migrant voters. Adequate security personnel from CRPF and J&K Police have been deployed to ensure smooth polling. Police officials have also warned against any illegal activities around polling stations.
