Purnam, stationed in the Ferozepur sector, accidentally crossed into Pakistan while on duty and was subsequently taken captive by Pakistani soldiers. His family learned of the situation the next day, with his wife, Rajni Sahu, revealing they were informed by a fellow soldier.
