Hyderabad: Telangana is entering what could become one of the most intense phases of summer this season, with weather officials warning of rising temperatures and prolonged heat conditions across large parts of the state over the next few days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for the coming four days and cautioned that temperatures may continue to rise gradually by one to two degrees Celsius. In some areas, maximum temperatures could approach 47 degrees Celsius.
A red alert has been issued for several districts where severe heatwave conditions are expected, while the remaining districts are under orange alert.
The warning comes after Telangana recorded its highest temperature of the season so far, with the mercury touching 46.5 degrees Celsius in parts of the state.
Red alert across multiple districts
According to the forecast, districts expected to face the most severe conditions include Adilabad, Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapalli, Karimnagar, Jagtial, Kamareddy, Rajanna Sircilla, Nizamabad, Nirmal, Suryapet and Nalgonda.
These regions are likely to witness prolonged exposure to high daytime temperatures along with increased heat stress conditions.
Officials have advised people in these districts to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement during peak afternoon hours.
Hyderabad likely to cross 43°C
Hyderabad is also expected to witness a further rise in temperatures.
The city may cross the 43-degree Celsius mark over the next few days, adding pressure to daily routines and increasing dependence on cooling measures.
Although Hyderabad does not always record the highest temperatures in the state, urban conditions often make the heat feel more intense. Concrete structures, traffic congestion and reduced airflow contribute to retained heat during the day.
Commuters, outdoor workers and people travelling during afternoon hours are likely to experience the strongest impact.
Data from weather authorities showed that heatwave conditions were reported from as many as 84 locations across Telangana.
Two locations — one in Jangaon district and another in Komuram Bheem Asifabad — recorded severe heatwave conditions, indicating the growing spread of extreme weather.
Among the highest temperatures recorded:
Dilawarpur (Nirmal): 46.5°C
Dharmasagar (Hanamkonda): 46.4°C
Choppadandi (Karimnagar): 46.4°C
Odela (Peddapalli): 46.4°C
Raikal (Jagtial): 46.3°C
Wadlakonda (Jangaon): 46.3°C
Penuballi (Khammam): 46.3°C
Koheda (Siddipet): 46.2°C
The widespread pattern shows that the heat is no longer concentrated in one region but is affecting multiple districts simultaneously.
Rain possible, but relief may be limited
Alongside the heat warning, weather officials have forecast light to moderate rainfall in isolated places over the next few days.
Some districts may witness short spells of rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds.
However, officials indicated that rainfall activity is expected to remain scattered and may not significantly reduce overall heat conditions.
Dry weather is likely to return soon after.
Daily life under heat pressure
The effect of rising temperatures is increasingly visible across Telangana.
Outdoor work schedules are changing, public movement slows during afternoon hours and demand for water and cooling appliances continues to rise.
Construction workers, delivery personnel, vendors and commuters remain among the groups most exposed to prolonged heat.
Health experts generally advise maintaining hydration, reducing direct sun exposure and avoiding outdoor activity during peak daytime hours.
With temperatures expected to remain high and alerts already in place across districts, the coming days are likely to test both infrastructure and daily routines.
For now, weather officials continue to advise caution, especially for people spending long hours outdoors.
Summer in Telangana has entered a more intense phase — and relief, at least for the moment, may remain limited.
